WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT MALARIA

MALARIA

WHAT IS MALARIA?
Malaria is a parasitic disease.its symtoms include fever, chills, sweats, headache, body aches, nausea and vomitng. The symtoms may sometimes recur every 48 to 72 hours, depending on the type of parasite involved and how long the person involved and how long the person has had the disease
HOW DOES MALARIA SPREAD?
Malaria parasites –protozoans called plasmodia are introduced into the human bloodstream through the bite of a female anopheles mosquito
The parasites find their way into the infected person’s liver cells, where the parasites multiply
When a liver cell ruptures,it releases the parasites, which then invade the infected person’s red bloody cells,There the parasites continue to multiply
When a red blood cell ruptures,it releases the parasites, which invade still more red blood cells. The cycle of red blood cell invasion and rupture continues.
The infected person typically manifests symtoms of malaria each time the red blood cells rupture
A human can get the malaria parasite from an infected mosquito,Conversely a noninfected mosquito can get the malaria parasite from biting an infected human. Then the infected mosquito can pass the parasite to another human
The world health organization estimate that in 2013,more than 198 million people were infected with malaria and estimated 584,000 died as a result of it. Nearly 4 out of 5 casualties were children under five years of age.The disease presents a threat in about a hundred countries and territories throughout  the world putting some 3.2 billion people at risk.
DID YOU KNOW?
Children and pregnant women are most at risk of serious illness if they contract malaria,In africa alone, one child dies every minute from malaria. In rare cases, people have contracted malaria through a blood tranfusion
Permit me to introduce on this health blog,in which I had an interview with on many cases of malaria treatment, she has handle and treated many rare cases of malaria with great success and had been in nursing for almost 12 years.Welcome to my health blog NURSE EMELDAH OFOMA
ME- welcome to my health blog
NURSE EMELDAH- thank you
ME-can you start by telling us,what it is about malaria, and how can one get infected and how it can be prevented?
NURSE EMELDAH-Once a person has been bitten by an infected mosquito, the parasites are released into their bloodstream inside the body,They reproduce and multiply.Different types of malaria have different lengths of reproductive cycle and different location in the body where the stages reside,it is the process of reproduction and movement through the body that causes the shaking chills, high temprature[fever]
When the temprature drops,The patient often sweats profusely and feels much better, then the same day or one to two days later, further attacks occur with feeling generally unwell, high temprature and so on.
The attacks diminish in the course of a number of weeks,if the patient develops the ability to resist the malaria parasits. But if proper treatment is given the fever and parasites can disappear within a few days. Partial immunity to malaria develops very slowly and is quickly lost,Some estimate within 6 months of leaving the exposure area.
ME- This quite interesting and educative,Now can you tell us,How can one protect him or herself especially here in africa?
NURSE EMELDAH- If you live in a land where malaria is endemic……..Use a bed net or a mosquito net. It should be treated with insecticide, free of any holes or tears and tucked completely under the mattress
Use indoor residual spraying in your home,if possible, install screens on doors and windows, and use air-conditioner and fans, which may disccourage mosquitoes from settling,
Wear light-colored clothing that fully covers your skin,Whenever possible, avoid areas of brush, where mosquitoes swarm, and standing water, where they breed
Obtain medication only from autorized sources, Poor-quality or imitation medication can prolong the illness or increase the risk of death. Remove mosquitoo-breeding sites around home. If you live in a malaria area or you have been in one,do not ignore the following symoms of malaria,-High temperature [fever], sweats, shaking chills, Headache,Muscle aches,Fatigue, Nausea,Vomiting,Diarrhea…..Untreated malaria can cause severe anemia and can quickly become life threatening.
ME- So what medical advise are you giving to us and to those who want to get treated ?
NURSE EMELDAH- Simple medical treatment immediatetly, before symtoms get worse, especially in children and pregnant mothers
ME- That’s all we can take for today, thank you very much for taking your time to be with us,incase of those who reading this with you and want to contact you,how can they reach you?

NURSE EMELDAH- Thank you for inviting me and it has been a pleasure, For those who want to contact me my cell phone number is 08037640260
